Podcast Featured Guest: Mastering Personal Branding for entrepreneurial success

I recently had the pleasure of being a guest with Donna Eade on her mindset and Action podcast, a business podcast to grow and streamline your business.

In episode 273, Donna focused the first Mini Mindset Monday pod on one of my earliest blocks in business "comparisonitis." I shared how comparing yourself to others can stifle growth and how important it is to recognise your own path and stay true to it.

One of the key takeaways from the conversation was the concept of resilience. I mentioned that even though I have been in business for a while (6 years now), I still face moments of self-doubt triggered by comparison.

However, the key strategy here ... I have learned to manage it by staying focused on my own work and not letting others’ successes distract me. This is something we can all relate to, especially in the age of social media, where it's so easy to get lost in a scroll and feel like we're not doing enough.

Then in episode 274 of the Mindset & Action podcast, I had the pleasure of being featured and chatting with Donna again, this time sharing invaluable insights on building a powerful personal brand for success.

Donna has been talking a lot about visibility on the show lately, so my expertise in this area was perfect for this episodes discussion. Visibility, as we both agreed, is key in business—especially for solo entrepreneurs who are essentially the face of their brand.

Here are the show notes from the episode written by Donna Eade

Janine made a great point about how personal and business brands often overlap, but they’re not always the same thing. Your personal brand is about you—your values, personality, and how you present yourself to the world. On the other hand, your business brand includes elements like your logo, colours, and fonts, which are all used to represent your company. However, the two need to align, particularly if you’re a solo entrepreneur selling services, where people are essentially buying into you as a person.

We also touched on the importance of making your personal brand visible. In the small business world, especially for solo entrepreneurs, people connect with the person behind the business before making a purchase.

If you’ve been hiding behind your business brand and not putting yourself out there, Janine suggests taking a step back and making sure that your personal brand is well-represented. People like to know who they’re buying from, and showing your true self helps build trust and authenticity with your audience.

Another big topic we discussed was the importance of aligning your personal brand with your business brand. For example, Janine spoke about how her brand palette includes red, a colour she wears often because it represents her bold, vibrant personality. But what if your brand colours don’t suit you personally? No problem! Janine reassures us that we don’t have to dress in our brand colours every day. Instead, we can find complementary shades or bring brand colours into our photoshoots and marketing materials in other ways, such as through accessories or stationery.

Finally, Janine emphasised the value of doing foundational work when it comes to personal branding. It’s crucial to be clear about your core values, your story, and what makes you unique. If you’re planning to grow your team, having these elements in place will help you attract people who align with your vision and can help move your business forward. Authenticity is key—there’s no point in creating a brand that doesn’t reflect who you are, as it will only lead to disappointment for both you and your clients.
